EXT. AT PARTY — EVENING

               Dick and Jane exit the car.  Jane smiles and leads Dick to
               SENATOR ALAN STEWART.  He is as attractive as Jane and
               obviously very powerful.  He holds court by a pool.

                                   SENATOR STEWART
                         Jane, so glad you could make it.  I
                         hope it wasn’t an inconvenience.
                         Not much of an anniversary for you.

                                   JANE
                         Not at all, Senator.  Dick and I
                         are honored to be invited.

                                   SENATOR STEWART
                             (taking her hand)
                         Call me Alan tonight.

               Jane lets go of Dick’s and moves close to the Senator.  A
               waiter moves in with champagne and wine on a tray.

                                   SENATOR STEWART (CONT’D)
                         Something to drink, Jane?

               Jane glances at Dick, then to the Senator and to the waiter.

                                   JANE
                         Dick, honey, would you be a pet and
                         get me a drink?

                                   DICK
                         Of course, Dear.

                                   JANE
                         Just the usual, honey.

               Dick turns to walk away and is stopped by the Senator.

                                   SENATOR STEWART
                         Wait.

               Dick turns, as the group watches.

                                   SENATOR STEWART (CONT’D)
                         I don’t serve JD.  Wouldn’t have it
                         in the house.  We will have to
                         teach Jane to appreciate finer
                         things.  Tell Jimmy to serve Jane
                         from my private stock.

               Dick turns to the bar alone.

                                   JANE
                         Senator, it is marvelous.  You have
                         a flair for getting the best in
                         life.

                                   SENATOR STEWART
                         Trust me, Jane, we’re just
                         starting.

               Dick brings Jane’s drink and nothing for himself.  She takes
               it, sips, and focuses on Stewart.  Dick realizes he forgot
               his own drink and heads to the bar alone.

               EXT. STEPS TO THE HOUSE — LATER

               Darkness falls and the party goers move inside.  Jane is with
               the Senator.  Dick trails along carrying another drink to
               Jane.  Discretely, Dick hands her the glass.

                                   JANE
                         Thank you; you’re so good to me.

                                   DICK
                         Honey, you told me to remind you to
                         watch how much you drink.

                                   JANE
                         I am fine.

               The Senator notices the interchange.

                                   SENATOR STEWART
                         Don’t worry, I’ll watch out for
                         her.

                                   DICK
                         I appreciate that Sir, but…

                                   SENATOR STEWART
                         Not another word; I will make sure
                         she doesn’t get into any real
                         trouble.  Jane was just telling me,
                         you are hoping to get some
                         government contracts for your
                         company.  A smart move for you.

               The Senator and Jane make their way towards the door, as Dick
               spots a woman waiter with a cigarette.
