Reboot, Intervention 2.0

Aug 30th, 2008 | By User ImagePlotDog | Category: A Novel Approach, A Novel Approach - Process

The muse can be a real pain in the butt. When I am writing in the wrong direction I get slapped around pretty well. I can’t write with flow, nothing is clear, and the story, well… if you spent some time in this section of the blog, you have to pretty much know it wasn’t going well.

Review of THE FACE OF DEATH by Cody McFadyen

Aug 27th, 2008 | By User ImagePlotDog | Category: Guest Author Post, Reviews

The Face of Death, the new thriller by Cody McFadyen is my first foray into the writing style of this author but it won’t be my last.
The Face of Death mines the popular and fertile fiction ground of the unique serial killer.

An Interview with “THE FACE OF DEATH” Author Cody McFadyen

Aug 26th, 2008 | By User ImagePlotDog | Category: Book Tour, Guest Author Post, Writer's Life

Plotdog Press is jealous and envious to be a stop on  Cody McFadyen’s, The Face of Death book tour, brought to you by PUMP UP YOUR BOOK PROMOTION VIRTUAL BOOK TOURS
This might be a good time for you to ask why jealous and envious? I am not an easy reader to get to try a new author, but when I am out of my favorites I will read into a new author just to see what might be out there.  As a reader I tend towards thrillers and suspense so my eyes usually head right for those novels on the shelves or tables.  While I see myself as a writer after my book and screenplays, I am more than ever a fan of authors.  I hope that never changes.  When I wander into my favorite book stores, I literally stroll, allowing my eyes to catch covers and titles that strike me as interesting.

Heading Into Dangerous Waters (Head hopping at it’s worst and best)

Aug 24th, 2008 | By User ImagePlotDog | Category: Write to Blog, Writer's Life

Every writer seems to develop some individual quirks and talents that are almost so strong as to almost be a super power in their craft. New writers, like me occasionally take some time developing their superpowers in the best way, at least that is my perspective. (And there are many perspectives on PERSPECTIVE)

My use of “perspective”, is apparently close to but not spot on with a PhD in English level use of the term. The word doctors seem to interchange perspective in literary circles with the term Point of View or POV.

Chapter 22 - Dead Play

Aug 21st, 2008 | By User ImagePlotDog | Category: Dead Play, Serialized Novel

That tiny seed was fertilized by Eddie’s feeling that everyone could read the existence of his new kinky lifestyle. He could still feel the marks from her whip and other extreme treatments, but more to the point, for today, well, this was the first time he had murdered a man with his own hands and he was sure that somehow that must show as he wandered through a grocery store picking up cereal. He watched Sara read the ingredients of a new type of soup, just like she had done this a hundred times; murder, then soup reading; choke someone; oops too many carbs in the soup. He

I Think I Write How I Think, I Think

Aug 19th, 2008 | By User ImagePlotDog | Category: Write to Blog, Writer's Life

Sometimes, I Can’t Help Myself.  This is one of those times; Jenn at Before I am Famous asks, “How do you write?”

Hmmmm, with a computer, one word at a time, with my fingers, with my eyes closed, not well, with a muse and of course with immense pleasure.

See, couldn’t help it, I hope at least one of those responses made you smile.  The truth of how I write is inarguably much less pretty than I think it is for most other people.

Shattered Heart, (Richard’s back story) FIRST DRAFT

Aug 17th, 2008 | By User ImagePlotDog | Category: A Novel Approach, Book

A Novel Approach - Intervention the Novel, FIRST DRAFT, please feel free to give me feedback!

It wasn’t right to say Richard had been in love before, he was still in love but now he had been cleaved from her. Richard despaired that he knew what absolute love was for he had lived it and lost it. In moments of pristine clarity he both rejoiced in and mourned that he had been so abjectly and completely in love. He was not foolish; this was not puppy or teen love, but true devoted connection on a completely cellular level. Being lost to it was more agonizing in that he had been doomed by it.

Intervention, The Heart of a Novel

Aug 16th, 2008 | By User ImagePlotDog | Category: A Novel Approach, A Novel Approach - Process

Why this chapter now, and why no chapter number?
The placement of this chapter isn’t known yet. As the chapters develop I am sure it will become clear to me when this information finds its place in the novel. I provide it to you so you understand some essential motivations for Richard’s actions. If you have thoughts on when this should pop up as we write, I would love to hear your thoughts.

Midnight Shadows

Aug 16th, 2008 | By User Imageexquisite_corpse | Category: Guest Author Post, Guest Writer

Stars apparent shining dark skies
cloaked secrets in midnight blue
mysterious shadows like venomous illusions
thick shadows folding lucid dreams
million cricket chirps, stillborn stars

the serenely silent sanctuary beckons
Succulent kisses, mysterious smudged eyes.
tangled hair entwines enfolding arms
sleepy abyss of confounding dreams

silent, unwieldy, deep shadows night

distraught nightmares child snuggly daddy
dark world disappears peaceful rest

Exquisite Corpse is hosted by Before I am Famous.

An Interview with “Life After College: What Your Parents and Professors Never Taught You” Author ChaChanna Simpson

Aug 15th, 2008 | By User ImagePlotDog | Category: Book Tour, Guest Author Post

Being the youngest member of my family I remember being a kid, thinking, the older kids in school must know all the answers. Once I got into school, it was the high school kids, then the college age kids, and when I was in college, it felt like the diploma must come with some magic tome that would explain the real world. It didn’t come in the diploma or even during the discussions I had with friends in the same situation. Now, that magic tome is here.

While PlotDog Press tends to focus on fiction, we enjoy and support both fiction and non-fiction writing.  Each type of writing has it own challenges, rewards and readership.  One of the difficult things to writing non-fiction is finding an area of specialization where your market is in need of your expertise and where your experience is representative of the problems that readers will need answered.  Author Hal W. Lanse is a writer who fits the definition of finding a significant problem and coming forward with innovative information that will assist parents and children at literacy risk.

Blood, Sweat and Just Get On With IT!

Aug 10th, 2008 | By User ImagePlotDog | Category: Write to Blog, Writer's Life

There are lots of reasons to get stopped in your writing process.  Some are terrible, some are pretty good, and some are great reasons.  In my humble opinion, none of the reasons is good enough to keep a true writer down for more than a bit.  The amount of down time is directly correlated to the severity of the reason for stopping.

More than your NORMAL excitement about writing

Aug 8th, 2008 | By User ImagePlotDog | Category: Book Tour, Guest Author Post

An interview with Left to Die author Lisa Jackson with an excerpt from the book.

“Lisa Jackson can’t keep away from murderers, especially serial killers.  She’s been killing people everywhere from Savannah and New Orleans to San Francisco and the Pacific Northwest—and it’s been worth it.  Her readers come back again and again, and her novels are fixtures on national bestseller lists. In fact, her book Fatal Burn was a number one New York Times paperback bestseller, and the first two of her novels to be published in hardcover, Shiver and Absolute Fear, were in the top five on the New York Times Best Sellers list.

Chapter 20 - Dead Play

Aug 7th, 2008 | By User ImagePlotDog | Category: Dead Play, Serialized Novel

John Marshall sat, infuriated at his over sized desk, in his not so governmentally appointed office. Opulence wasn’t allowed but that didn’t mean that position didn’t have its benefits. For instance, his chair was the same or better than the ones those god damned federal judges sat their judgmental, liberal asses on.

The Desperate Need to be Gone

Aug 2nd, 2008 | By User Imageexquisite_corpse | Category: Guest Author Post, Guest Writer

Today and Tomorrow it is to the beach I go.
to walk along amongst sea creatures
On the beach to dance around
Cling to the past sandy trails.

Below in to you the sun fall.
Ever brisk as a breeze to my face.
Always there to sea and shore.

Halcyon days to clam the ocean.

Torrid asphalt no gas to beach
To stare at futility across water, Tokyo-3
