INT. DICK AND JANE'S PARTY -- LATER

               The crowd mixes and mingles.  Cokes at one table, alcohol
               at another.  A rich patron has a burning cigarette.  There
               are no ashtrays, he puts the butt out in his glass.  Jane
               graciously takes the glass and brings him another.

               Dick stands in a corner with Carl, who holds one empty
               scotch glass and another that is full.  Carl takes a hard
               drink.

                                   DICK
                         First time without a condom.

               Carl shrugs.

                                   CARL
                         So, what's the big announcement?

               EXT. THE PARTY AT DICK AND JANE'S -- NIGHT

               Alex works the outside party as a server.  She takes head
               signals from Jane, as to who to ply with alcohol.

               She notices Dick and they avoid each other studiously.

               Jane surveys the room and nods at Dick.  She clears her
               throat.  He misses it, because he is still talking to Carl.

                                   JANE
                         Dick, join me.

               Dick finally notices and moves beside Jane.

                                   JANE (CONT'D)
                         Thank you all for coming.  I
                         wanted to tell you all how much I
                         appreciate your suffering through
                         my training time at the facility.

               Alex peeks in from the kitchen pissed.

                                   ALEX
                         Does she even know when she lies?

               Alex catches Dick's eye and mouths, "What the fuck."  Dick
               shurgs. 

               EXT. DICK AND JANE'S HOUSE, BEHIND GARAGE -- MOMENTS LATER

               Alex fumes and crushes her pack of cigarettes.  She takes
               out a bent one and lights it anyway.  She steps back to the
               door of the house and blows the smoke back in.

                                   ALEX
                         Bitch.  You lying, pseudo, 12
                         step, fucking bitch.

               INT. PARTY IN THE HOUSE -- MOMENTS LATER

                                   JANE
                         I am also thrilled to report that
                         our facility and I have been
                         selected by Senator Stewart to be
                         the new federal model for the
                         Senator's nationwide, women's
                         domestic protection initiative.
                         Funding will provide a complete
                         remodel of our building and
                         treatment system.

               Dick's smile fades.

               A smattering of applause as Dick hugs her and whispers.

                                   DICK
                         What about the baby?

               Jane strolls off into the group to mix and mingle.
