INT. TREATMENT FACILITY JANE’S NEW OFFICE — DAY

Jane sits at her beautiful wooden desk, as Alex is escorted
in. Jane casually reads a file, forcing Alex to wait.
Alex seethes. Alex moves some signs off the chair. She
turns them over and they read “NO SMOKING”.

JANE
Federal witness protection
program. That’s something
different.

ALEX
Any new info here today?

Alex pulls out a pack of cigarettes and puts one in her
mouth. Jane points at the new signs.

ALEX (CONT’D)
It isn’t smoking until I light
it.

JANE
Sit.

ALEX
No thanks.

JANE
Look, I know you don’t like being
part of how this all started.

ALEX
Lies are what they are.

JANE
You want to know how I help you.

ALEX
That would be new.

Jane sits, tries a friendly face, which goes over like a
cross-dressing, coffee drinking, hooker at a Mormon
wedding.

JANE
Maybe, I can help you to get out.

ALEX
Freedom is overrated and
dangerous.

JANE
You can’t hide from life forever.

ALEX
That’s so profound.

JANE
This is a request for help, and I
help you in return.

ALEX
That’s not quid pro quo, right?

JANE
We have worked together for three
years. I finally trust you.

ALEX
The file says I can’t be trusted.

Jane sags and moves desk stuff.

JANE
Fuck it, we both have problems we
can’t fix alone..

ALEX
I sense another shoe.

Alex stares back waiting.

JANE
It is not what you think.

ALEX
All this therapy and no one has
the slightest idea what I think.

JANE
And you, don’t know my reality.

Alex sits, cigarette in her mouth, as she waits.

Jane opens her desk. Picks out a lighter, looks Alex in
the eye and reaches out to light the cigarette.

Alex takes a drag.

JANE (CONT’D)
It still isn’t what you believe.

ALEX
Who knows what to believe?

Jane begins to decompensate, like she is breaking apart.

JANE
I can’t explain how hard it is to
be with a man like him.

Alex straightens with real curiosity.

JANE (CONT’D)
He’s the perfect gentleman in
public, but vicious behind closed
doors.

ALEX
Well, a Senator has to be a power
monger or he wouldn’t be a
Senator.

Jane pretends to be stunned.

JANE
It’s Dick.
