               INT. ALEX'S APT -- LATER

               Alex rests in a ratty studio apartment.  Of the few things
               in the room, only one book box is empty.  The books sit on
               a makeshift bookshelf.  The titles are a who's who of
               social and personal dysfunction.  She holds an open beer
               and smiles.

                                   ALEX
                             (to the beer can)
                         Like drinking is my biggest
                         problem: ice cream, maybe; men,
                         yep; hiding from the IRA, harder,
                         that crazy bitch Jane, for
                         sure... drinking.  That's more
                         like salvation.

               Her cell phone rings.  She startles and drops the beer.
               Slowly, she moves toward the phone.  She answers
               cautiously.

                                   JANE
                         Alex, this is Jane.  Dick just
                         stormed out.  He is crazy mad.

                                   ALEX
                         What happened?

                                   JANE
                         He started accusing me of
                         drinking, then having sex with
                         his best friend.  He stormed out,
                         said he'd be back.  I am scared
                         he will hurt us.

                                   ALEX
                         Do you think you need the police?

                                   JANE
                         He hasn't done enough yet to
                         justify arrest, but when he comes
                         back; I just don't know.

                                   ALEX
                         You need a witness and someone to
                         stand by you.

                                   JANE
                         Just to cover my back.

               INT. DICK'S CAR -- LATER

               Dick is distraught and screaming into his cell phone.

                                   DICK
                         FUCK, FUCK fuck fuck fuck
                         fuck...God Damn it, Carl, you
                         fucking coward, lawyer prick.
                         Pick up the phone.  Fucking
                         answering machine.....
                             (beep)
                         Fucking Jane!  Fucking my
                         wife...FUCK!

               Dick tries to throw the phone out the rider's side window.
               The phone explodes on the closed window.  His car swerves.
               He slams on the brakes, and blue police lights flash.

               Dick slumps against the steering wheel, as the cop
               approaches.

               INT. DICK AND JANE'S BATH -- LATER

               Jane lounges in the tub, drinking scotch.  The phone rings
               she answers.

                                   JANE
                         Dick?

                                   SENATOR STEWART
                         No Jane, it's Senator Stewart.
                         Can you talk freely?

                                   JANE
                         Alan, it is so good to hear from
                         you after today.  It is a great
                         time.

                                   SENATOR STEWART
                         I need to make this quick.  This
                         thing with Dick needs resolving.
                         He has become a total loose
                         cannon.  Him, being in your life
                         in any way is becoming an issue
                         for me.  Take care of it or I
                         find a new partner.

                                   JANE
                         It is working itself out now,
                         Alan.

                                   SENATOR STEWART
                         I don't want working itself out!
                         I don't have time.  Fix it now.
                         I don't care how.  Get rid of
                         that little prick one way or the
                         other..NOW..and no media coverage
                         or courts.

                                   JANE
                         As you wish, Alan.

                                   SENATOR STEWART
                         You're learning how to make me
                         happy.

                                   JANE
                         I think you are worth learning
                         about.

                                   SENATOR STEWART
                         I am seeing you tomorrow, aren't
                         I?

                                   JANE
                         Yes Alan, whatever you wish.

                                   SENATOR STEWART
                         No court cases.  Deal with it.

               The phone goes dead.  Jane gets out of the tub and smiles.
