INT. TREATMENT CENTER DAY ROOM - DAY
The Demented Woman who talks to cigarettes, strides
purposefully up to Alex, who is staring out the window and
writing notes in a personal journal. Alex sees her coming
and quickly closes the journal and clicks the cover's lock
closed.

The crowd mixes and mingles. Cokes at one table, alcohol
at another. A rich patron has a burning cigarette. There
are no ashtrays, he puts the butt out in his glass. Jane
graciously takes the glass and brings him another.

mental focus. The room feels dangerous.
Jane speaks, the lead counselor watches. Alex scowls from

INT. TREATMENT FACILITY MAIN ROOM — MORNING
Jane is escorted into the main treatment office, which has
seen its share of pain and puke. The desk is a huge barrier
to protect those behind it. The chairs are barely above
prison safe and the wall decorations are a mix of drug and
alcohol propaganda and daily treatment tools.

Dick is trying to help Jane down the steps. Jane resists and
breaks free and pin balls off a topiary and into a tree, gets
her bearings, brushes off Dick’s help and forces her hand
into his jacket pocket. She pulls out the car keys.
